Work starts to open up key development site

Source: Widnes Waterfront

Construction work has begun on the first one hundred metres of new road, which will pave the way for the development of 30,000 sq ft of new, high specification office space at Widnes Waterfront.
It is anticipated that the new road will ultimately form the first section of an impressive, tree lined boulevard which will stretch from the existing roundabout in Earle Road to Tanhouse Lane, parallel to the existing railway line.
In time the Boulevard will be the main distributor road in the south of the Widnes Waterfront programme area providing access to a number of potential development sites.
Councillor Rob Polhill said: “The first 100m of the boulevard really is key to opening up the opportunities within many areas of the Waterfront. Initially it allows Langtree Group to access their site but in the long run there will be many more parcels of land made available to developers. It will be the main artery for the entire site.” The construction phase of the first section of road will be undertaken by Birse Civils Ltd and will take around six months to complete.
The construction of the first section of road will allow contractors for developers Langtree Group Plc to be on site within the next few weeks to start work on a prestigious, managed office development, over three floors which will provide accommodation for approximately fifty new and growing businesses.
Once the access road has been completed there will be further, extensive landscaping work carried out in the area.
