Waterfront businesses get Smart security kits

125 businesses based at The Waterfront are to receive free SmartWater security kits as an additional measure to keep burglary low in the area.

SmartWater is an invisible liquid containing a unique code which is registered to one specific owner. Only visible under ultraviolet light and virtually impossible to remove, the liquid is used to mark high value items. If these items are then stolen, they can be easily identified and traced back to the original owner. What’s more, SmartWater provides the Police with evidence that can link a criminal to a specific crime.

The kits are being distributed by the Waterfront Business Steering Group as part of its ongoing drive to build a strong business community spirit.

Gareth Bennett (job title) at the Waterfront Steering group said: “We don’t have a major issue with theft from commercial property at The Waterfront but prevention is always better than cure.

“SmartWater has a proven track record of deterring criminal behavior and its system is water tight.

“We expect the take up of the kits to be very strong and we’ll be providing demonstrations to businesses on how to use them effectively.”
