Future Flower

Future Flower ImageDesigned by award winning architects Tonkin Liu, the Future Flower is a 14m high iconic steel structure which can be seen to grow out of the land, move gently in the wind and transfer wind energy into pulsing red light, marking a definitive point on the horizon of the River Mersey.

The Flower features 120 perforated steel petals fixed in such a way which allows them to ‘flutter’ and light up in the wind. The petals overlay to create a series of delicate, fluttering patterns, whilst making a bold and optimistic statement.

Three wind turbines located on the stem generate electricity to power the 60 lights located within the petal arrangement. The strength of light from within the petals is dependent on wind speed i.e. the strong the wind the brighter the light!
